The Grama Jyothi National Institute for The Differently Abled was registered on 3rd. November, 2004 under the Travancore-Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Act 1955. Smt. K.R. Gauri, the Minister for Agriculture, inaugurated the ‘Grama Jyothi Special School’, at Nalanchira on 2nd June 2005, to take care of children diagnosed with Down Syndrome, Autism, Mental Retardation, and Cerebral Palsy. The school started functioning in a rented building with two students.
Our dream of having a campus of our own was realized in May 2014, with the purchase of 1.25 acres of land with a partially completed building at Kaviyottumugal Nedumangad. The renovated and newly constructed block was dedicated by Rt. Rev. Thomas Mar Timotheos Episcopa on 16th May 2015. The school started functioning at the new campus on 4th January 2016. It is God’s abundant grace and the generous contribution of friends and well-wishers of Grama Jyothi Special School that made our dream a reality.
