GRAMA JYOTHI NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR THE DIFFERENTLY ABLED
A small group of friends under the guidance of His Lordship Rt. Rev. Dr. Geevarghese Mar Theodosius Episcopa (then Diocesan Bishop, Thiruvananthapuram-Kollam Diocese of the Mar Thoma Church) formed a charitable society for serving “the least of these brethren”. Grama Jyothi National Institute For The Differently Abled (Registration No. T.3117/2004) was registered on 3rd November, 2004 under the Travancore-Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Act 1955. Smt. K.R. Gauri, Minister of Agriculture, Government of Kerala inaugurated ‘Grama Jyothi Special School’, at Nalanchira on 2nd June 2005, to take care of children diagnosed with Down Syndrome, Autism, Mental Retardation and cerebral Palsy. The school started functioning in a rented building with two students. As the number of children increased the need for a spacious campus became an imminent need.
A campus of our own was established at Kaviottumugal, Nedumangad in 2014. The school started functioning in the new campus from 4th January, 2016.
At present we have 87 students on the roll and they are given training with utmost care and love by a team of dedicated staff. Our team comprises of a Principal, 10 Special Educators, Speech Therapist, Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Vocational Instructor, Physical Education Teacher, Music Teacher, Band Master ably supported by four Care Givers, three Drivers, Cook, Clerk and an Accountant.
